A friend gave my daughter a Kindle and it is entirely blank. The only thing we could do is
read the instruction manual. Where do we go to get it started? Do we need an account somewhere to have a source of books?

You can create an Amazon account from here --> https://goo.gl/BgMVtv After creating an Amazon account, you have to register your Kindle to that account.On your Kindle press and hold down (or slide) the Power button for 20 seconds and this will reset the Kindle.Then register it. To do that follow the steps below; From Home, tap the Menu icon. Tap on Settings and select Registration.
