The only way to remove the password XXXXX XXXXX reset the device, there is no other way as it has no internet connection, and there is no way to enable this while it is locked.
This reset is going to delete all your data and return it to new like when you first purchased it.
There is no way to avoid this. I guarantee this. If there was I would know after dealing with phones for over 15 years, and I would much prefer giving that method to my customers and avoiding a bad rating.
I advise though to check via your computer on www.gmail.com
Log in with the same account you used on your phone, and check if you have your contacts backed up (click Gmail in the top left then Contacts).
For your files, I advise to install Dropbox via the Google Play Store after resetting the Phone. It is a free app, and you can back up your files online (including photos), to avoid this problem ever occurring again.
