everything that randy has told me i am in the uk not the states

Expert:  Randy replied 2 years ago.
Okay,

This has to be done with the power off.. hold the volume down button and press the power on button briefly, with the volume down button held, you will now get a screen approx 10 seconds later and with a few options, go to hard reset/factory reset and follow options through, this should reset phone to factory settings,

Randy i am so sorry this advice is not working i have tried everything you have told me to do. All i get is the dark ble keyboard with enter password XXXXX unlock no menu just goes straight to the keyboard for typing an emergency calls only at the bottom of the screen?? help. don't forget i am in the Uk

Randy was on the right track, however the instructions he gave you were not for your Galaxy Y, they were for another Samsung phone.

Follow the steps below exactly, as they are for the Galaxy Y. I have the Y in front of me and just re-tested it to ensure they are the correct instructions and they worked without a hitch.

  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Replace the battery but do not power the device on.
  3. Hold down the Volume UP and OK Button(the center button) then press the Power button for 2-3 seconds. Release the power button but DO NOT release the other buttons.
  4. Your phone will boot into hboot mode.
  5. Follow the instructions on screen to navigate through the options.
  6. Select Clear Storage or Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
  7. Confirm your choice by pressing the power button or Home button.
  8. Now confirm your choice.
  9. When the device reboots, follow the on screen instructions to setup your new device.
