Alternator is pos. Hooked directly to battery.

OK, with the neg ground system 12volt wire goes to + side of coil

Dist wire goes to (-) side of coil, make sure you have 12 volts at the coil key on

dist cap off, see if spark in the points

if no ground the dist plate to the block and see if you

get spark that way

I have hooked all up as you indicated. No spark in distributor. Not understanding your last direction about grounding
Expert:  Wayne replied 2 months ago.

Many times on these older tractors they loose the ground from

the point plate to the dist , run a temp jumper wire from a good ground to

the point plate and spin it over

I do show power to pos side of coil. This comes from the starter along with ignition switch. Motor turns over, just no spark. OK...will do on grounding point plate. I'll be back in 15 min. Thank you.

Two more pics of dist.

where the distributor wires all connect along with the points there is a post. Inside this "post and slide on clamp" is a small piece of plastic. Question: should that plastic be there or should all connections be grounded and tight with the clamp and distributor electrical connection post?
