Customer Question

I was mowing tall weeds when I bogged down the mower and killed the engine on my TG 1860. Since then the engine starts but when I release the brake or engage the mower the engine quits. What did I break?

Have you already tried bypassing the seat switch?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
The seat switch has been bypassed for years.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Runs fine when I'm not on it. With the parking brake set and mower switch off. When I do either, release parking brake OR turn on mower, the engine quits.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Are you there?
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

Let me do some research in my manual I will get back with you on what to try

No I have not forgot about you just been busy today with my daytime job sorry for the delay

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
No problem. But my grass is getting awful tall:)
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

Have you checked the pto switch to make sure it is working correctly

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
It was working just fine before this event. When I turn it on engine kills.
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

Do the blades turn freely with the mower off make sure there is stuck in the mower deck.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
mower deck is off the machine.
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

Can you turn the PTO shaft by hand?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I've checked the wires to the pto and they are fine
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

It sounds like a bad PTO clutch when you hit the tall grass that might have been the last power it had have you ever replaced the PTO clutch

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
No. But why would the engine kill when I release the parking brake?
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

Is the wiring to the parking brake ok and the switch ok?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
It is just fine too.
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

There is a safety switch in the engine compartment on the left hand side looking from the front of the mower check the wiring going to it

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I'll do that tomorrow. There are two fuses in the center in front of the dash where the hood opens. They are both good. It sounds like you are referring to something else.
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

Yes here is a link to the parts manual got to electrical and click on wiring harness number 100 is what I referring tohttp://kpadweb.kubota.co.jp/kpad2/PartsInfo.do?bookCd=100A0173&funcCd=&figNo=&himban=&dispType=0

Try this one accept the agreement and type in tg1860 click the first one that comes up there will be three in a list

Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

Did that one work?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
It did. I'll work on it later and get back with you. It seems that some sort of safety switch or relay is the likely problem.
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

Ok I will be waiting

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Is this the safety switch? It is the only thing that makes sense. There is the switch down below the brake pedal. This thing is on the left if you are sitting on the tractor, between the battery and the cowling to the rear of where the hood opens.
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

No that is just a jumper wire connection the safety switch should be located on right hand side sitting in the seat mounted on on the fire wall behind the engine close to the brake pedal

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Guess what. The jumper that I had in the seat safety switch was messed up and not completing the circuit. Re-did that and varoooom. Got my lawn mowed. Never did find the safety switch you were talking about. Actually it was my youngest son who suggested a second look at the seat switch that I had by-passed years ago.
Thanks anyway.
Expert:  Bradley Martin replied 9 months ago.

That is good glad you found the problem I was thought it would be the seat switch let me know if you need anymore help and please rate me when you get a chance.
