You are down to the block? Stud just will not loosen? How much time do you have? Twist it off, or cut it flush and use a punch to make dimple in the very center of the stud, and then drill it out, starting with a small bit and wind up with a large enough bit to just get to the top of the threads, Then use the correct tap and tap out the hole, The tap will clean out the remaining part of the stud. Not an easy job, but the quickest.

The bolt is about 5/16 but metric. It penatrats thruThis bolt penetrates though aluminmum housing then into the cast engine block a tap is not long enough to reach.Any other ideas?

Talk to the service manager at John Deere in Billings Mt. He said heat the cast block where the stud is threaded on the back side. Hit the stud with a hammer, let cool down. Then turn. I did that and it came loose.
