Replaced clutch on 2240 deere when separating the two

replaced clutch on 2240 john deere when separating the two hydraulic lines to pull tractor into a round spring fell out about 1 inch by 1 inch spring fell out on the ground do not lnow where it goes. larger line has a steel ball with pin holding it in place. small line has hole in the center about the size of the spring . is this where the spring goes and is there a steel ball supposed to be with it?

What you are describing is a Disc spring,

the clutch Disc has about 6 of them

this is normal , for them to fall out

look at the Disc see if one is missing
