Hello, my name is ***** ***** I can help you with your question.
Although the controllers are protected by transient voltage protectors welders can cause voltage spikes higher then the protectors can handle. If the distance from the controllers is great then you only need to disconnect the battery ground cables. If you are welding near the engines then it is recommended that you disconnect the controller connectors themselves.
In reality there is only a 10% chance of a voltage spike damaging a controller that is not powered up. The above recommendations are to make that a 0% chance.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
Thanks,
Kevin
