Dear Sir, Massey 175 tractor. While mowing hay tractor lost

This answer was rated:

Dear Sir,
Massey 175 tractor. While mowing hay tractor lost drive. Can move gear stick through gears without depressing clutch while engine is running. Second stage clutch to PTO still operating as normal. Tractor does not seem to have first stage clutch.
Any Ideas.
Many thanks,
Alf Mewett

Curtis B. :

All indication is the clutch disc has failed, either the center has spun out or the plate has deteriorated. With gears not grinding, the shaft is not turning, and for shaft not to be turning, the disc is not being turned!

Curtis B. :

Drive disc can fail and pressure plate would still feel ok. You can try to look into housing, but with no real inspection plate, you can see little. Looks like unit will have to be split. Sorry.
