281X massey tractor wont start. It seems as if a safety cutout switch is faulty but I cant identify which one. Michael

Do you have voltmeter or test light to check the system?
You say you can't jump the starter?
That would make me think battery or cable problem.?/
Safety switches would not affect jumping at the starter.

Yes i have a volt meter. There is continuity at the pto take off (cut out switch)

i ran power from battery postive to starter positive no effect

It should have turned.
if it is any help this problem developed when the pto spontaneously disengaged while brushhogging. Turn tractor off to check for mechanical obstruction then tractor would not start

Wonder why you can't jump at starter? It should spin the engine. Good connections?

Can you check the solenoid switch wire to see if the key switch is sending power to the solenoid?
If you have power from the key switch, the starter or solenoid would be the problem.
Yes but i will have to go to where the tractor is in the field. It will be about 15 mi before i can get back to the computer

No power from key switch
Have power to the switch? There is a fuse in the power wire , which originates at the starter solenoid and goes to the dash and key switch.
yes there is power at the key with the volt meter but nothing happens when i turn on the key
Neutral switch or pto switch, harness to pto switch hasn't been damaged has it?
