I've just installed an MT 653 Reman Allison Transmission in a 1985 Ford 8000 truck. When I drive it it will not shift up. When I put it in D it starts out in second gear but does not shift up. If I put it in 1 it goes in 1st gear as it should. Put it in 2 and it goes in 2. If I put it in the 2 - 4 position it just stays in second gear. I'm wondering if the problem may have something to do with the adjustment of the cable that goes up to the throttle. I do not have any specs on that adjustment. Could that be the problem or do you think it might be something else?
Optional Information: Make: Ford Model: 8000 Year: 1985 Engine: Cat 3208
The modulator cable is the adjustment you need to make. There is no set adjustment, just move it a small amount till it starts to shift, then make adjustment until you get the shift points you like. on gas engine it would have vacuum modulator, but on diesel, it has to be set with the cable.
Thanks, I will try that. The truck is 1 1/2 hrs away from where I live so it will be a few days before I get back to it. I will try that and let you know if I need more information.
