Hello. I am having a problem with my QuickBooks POS 10 software.

Resolved Question:

Hello.

I am having a problem with my QuickBooks POS 10 software. The company file will not open.

Thanks for your question. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I look forward to assisting you.

What is the error that you receive when you try to open the company file?

Thank you
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

It quickly flashes across the screen that QBPOS service is not running. I have restarted both of the QB POS Services and both are running currently.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
Thanks Rick

the issue will be with windows

When did this problem start?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

We took on a rootkill virus two days ago which has since been cleared up. I don't have a recent backup of the software or I would have already uninstalled/ reinstalled. When I attempt to go into QBPOS 10 to 'change' the program, it tells me that the Data1.cab file is corrupt. I extracted the file from the CD with no luck. Same issue.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, then we will repair windows as the virus would have corrupted system files.

do the following please

Download CC Cleaner (free) from here

CC Cleaner

(Click Download Latest Version on the top right)

Run it and let it scan and repair your registry.

Once done, restart the computer

Than

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator.

A black window will open.

Type in it

sfc /scannow

press enter and when it has completed, type in

chkdsk /r

Press enter.

It will give a message "the type of the file system is NTFS cannot lock current drive.
chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts y/n" Say Y, press enter and restart the computer.

Than try to run POS and Let me know the results please

Thank you
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I have the CC Cleaner downloaded, but this looks to be a paid subscription to use the service?

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
No, CC Cleaner is free. Just download and run it via my link I gave please.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

It is in the process of running now. I was looking at the wrong app. It has been a very long day!

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
I can understand :-)

remember after this process, complete the rest of the instructions please.

Thank you
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

CC Cleaner has completed. SFC is running now.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
Thanks Rick

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

SFC did not find any issues. CHKDSK running now.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
thanks

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

CHKDSK completed. No problems found.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, and if you start POS, you are still getting the error?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

When I start the POS, it prompts me for the company name which is already listed. When I click NEXT, it won't go forward. Just blinks and stays on the same screen.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, now go to Start, Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall a Program

Click on POS, click Change and tell me if it will now let you repair it please Rick.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

When I go through the Repair, I get a error:

1330.A - Data1.Cab has invalid digital signature. Error 0 was returned by WinVerifyTrust.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, Can you put the disk from POS.

It will give you the option to perform a repair installation.

do this, and it should replace the Cab file.

Once done, tell me if Pos will now run please.

Let me know the results please

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

The install went to the stage of copying files and then prompted with the same error.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, then we are going to need to attempt a System Restore.

Close all programs

Click Start, type in System Restore

Press enter

follow the steps to perform a System Restore. Choose a Restore Date when POS last worked.

Once completed, tell me if you can now open POS please.

Thank you
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

We attempted the system restore on this prior to the virus hitting two days ago and could not get the prior restores to go through. Either they would hang up or fail out immediately. If you want me to pick the oldest file, I can attempt to do so again though.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
We have to Rick, else we are looking at a complete uninstall and reinstall of POS.

And we want to ensure we have exhausted all other options first.

Let me know the results please
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Did three different restores, all failed.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, then we need to reinstall it, we are out of options Rick.

You will want to properly uninstall it first.

To do this, download the free 30 day trial of RevoUninstaller from here

www.revouninstaller.com

Install, run this and use this to uninstall POS.

Restart the computer and then install POS and it should now run correctly.

Let me know the results please

Thank you
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I do not have any current backups prior to this hitting. Can we save the data?

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
Move the company file to a safe location

For windows XP it is in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0\Data\[company name]\qbpos.db

For Windows 7 or Vista

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0\[company name]\qbpos.db

Can you find it?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I have the file saved to the desktop. I am on Win7 btw.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, this is your company file, so as long as it is ok and not damaged, you can open it again.

Now, perform the reinstall the way I said, and Let me know the results please

Thank you
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Uninstalled and Reinstalled from CD.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
I wanted you to uninstall using Revo Uninstaller Rick

did you do this?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Yes I did. I followed the instructions and uninstalled using Revo and then cleaned up the install files through Revo.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, and now what happens when you start POS?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

The Server machine is working great now. I am working on the client machine right now and working through the same steps that you gave me before with the Revo app.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
Perfect Rick!

And when your finished, copy the data file we backed up to the same location.

If you have continued problems, or would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Is there anything different with the install that I should be doing except for this is a client install for the back machine? I have installed, updated and when it comes up, it just freezes. Everything else is working correctly.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
No, this is correct

It should not freeze, but it can take some time to install

How long you been waiting?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

First time through before I killed the job was about 7-8 minutes.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, is that the computer we have been working on?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

No, that is the client machine. The server machine is up and going and they are processing orders through on it. The odd thing about it is that the client machine didnt have any issues prior to this connecting up.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, there could be a nu,ber odf issues with the clients machine.

Did you do the CC Cleaner Steps on that machine?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I did not do the cleaner. I went straight to the uninstall with Revo.

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.
ok, uninstall with Revo

than do the following please

Download CC Cleaner (free) from here
