I have the turbotax program that I purchased. I already filed my taxes and efiled the fed.tax, but I made a mistake on the state by doubling the property tax and months lived at our primary residence.I didn't see it until I was done and now I can't get back into the program to correct it. How can i do this? I need to get it done. Help
Already Tried: I tried going back to edit it. I also tried starting over. Didn't work.
Once you have efiled and it has been accepted you can not modify it. You need to file an "amended return" 1040x
Turbo tax will let you do this from within turbo tax but you can not efile it. You have to print it and mail it to the IRS.
This page has complete instructions as well as a video that shows how to do it.

I did not file the state tax yet. I completed it and printed it out so that I could mail it, that is when I saw my mistake. I don't need to amend it, I just need to redo it or fix that area and print it out again to mail it. I always mail the state form.
are you using the online version or the desktop version of turbotax
for online you should be able to just log in and go to the state portion
log in here https://turbotax.intuit.com/login/continue-return.jsp?priorityCode=3468337910&abtest=%26random%3D39005&postponeDelayedAuthEULA=true&postponeCreateAccountEULA=true&loginpage=continue&productid=
use the id and password XXXXX you used when you started it. usually the id is your email address
the desk top version. I will try to log in and do it that way. if i have a problem, I'll get back to you. Thank you. Tried it that way with email, password, last name,ss,birthdate. why can't i do it on my verion that i purchased(desktop)? I just need to get in and redo the form or correct it. isn't there a phone number to talk to someone? it is getting late and I'm getting frustrated. have to get this done.
I am going offline now. have to get to bed, work tomorrow. Hope to have an answer for tomorrow.
You should be able to do it on the desktop version
what happens when you start it and click on state ?
You may have to reload your data file.
click on file / open and it should be there on the list.
when i open the file and click on state, it goes back to my completed state taxes. nowhere does it let me into the area that i want to correct.
You may have to remove it and start again.
Open your return in TurboTax. Switch to Forms Mode by choosing Forms from the TurboTax View menu. From the File menu, choose Remove State Return. Select the state return you want to delete, and then click Remove. Click Yes to confirm. To start your state return again, choose Step-by-Step from the View menu to switch back to Interview mode, and then click the State Taxes tab. Click Continue.
But i think that once you get into view mode you can just look at the return by form and make the changes you want.
i did all of that and after i removed the state return i clicked on step-by-step from view menu, then clicked on state tax tab and when i clicked continue it went to wrap up on the federal and that was it. I can't understand why it won't let me redo the state taxes. now what?
you have to click on step by step in the view mode to get back to where it will do the interview thing.
Did you do the wrap up on federal. It should go to state when it finishes with the federal.
i finally got it done,it's corrected, printed and ready to be mailed. Halelujah! thank you so much for working with me and being patient (i hope). sorry it took me so long. next year i will be more careful and pay attention. Thanks!
You are very welcome. I am glad that i could help
As an expert I only get paid if you click on the accept button. So if you feel that i gave the correct answer in a professional manner I would apreciate if you clicked on the accept button for me. It will not charge you additional money but allows me to be paid from your deposit or subscription plan.
Thank you and have a great evening
