How do I download my 2008 return from Windows XP to Windows 7. TurboTax said I only owed $108, but now the IRS says $2,327! Please help!
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows 7 Browser: Other Already Tried: Tried to access my 2008 file on TurboTax, but could not. The files are on my other Windows XP computer. I need to know why I owe $2200 more than TurboTax told me--I entered everything correctly!
Do you still have access to your other Windows XP computer and do you still have a copy of your Turbo Tax 2008?Andy S40401.9331190625
I have the XP computer in the closet with all my prior tax forms stored on it. I do have a copy of my 2008 return, but the IRS letter doesn't show where my supposed error was! I thought TurboTax promised to help me with any potential IRS problems when I purchasd the program. I don't know how to download those files from my old computer!
1) Is your XP computer still functioning? If so, can you open the Turbo Tax 2008 on that computer? If you say yes to these questions, you can just open the Turbo Tax 2008 on your XP computer to see your return because the files should be stored on the XP computer. You can search your Turbot ax file in these steps:a) Click the Start menu button, choose Search > For Files or Folders and then click All Files and Folders.b) Type .tax2009 (.tax2008 for 2008 files) or .tax (for 2007 or earlier files) in the All or part of the file name field.3) Click Search. Matching files will appear in the Search pane.Make a note of the file's location or path. By default, Turbot ax saves tax files in the My Documents folder.4) From the TurboTax File menu, choose Open, and then browse to the file's location on your computer to open it.2) Do you do eFiling using TurboTax 2008? If so, you should have a transaction ID for your eFiling which you can use to inquire TurboTax for help.
My XP is in a box, but I don't know how to connect it to Windows 7. I have all the components except the keyboard and mouse in that box. How do I connect it to Windows 7 so I can download the info I need?
In order get the files from the your Windows XP, you need to connect your WindowsXP on the network. Then, you can remote control to your WindowsXP and download your Turbo Tax file. If you never done this before, I would suggest you to hook up all the components and start your Windows XP. Then, download the files into a USB drive. It's a lot easier to transfer files like this to your Windows 7.
