When does a local post office have the right to return mail

Customer Question

When does a local post office have the right to return mail that has not been picked up? They know that I'm in the area; I have not signed any papers giving up my post office box; I have been having health problems and have not picked up my mail in a timely manner. I have been contacted by people asking if I moved, if I changed my address, etc. They have done the same to my brother.

Hello and welcome back!
Are the payments on the P.O. box up to date?
How long has it been since you've been to the box to collect the mail?
Thanks for all your additional information.

Hi, My name is ***** ***** I am happy to assist you. They should not be sending mail back or return any mail. If your box is full they have to by the contract of your agreement with the PO Box move the mail to a larger box and leave a key for you to pick that mail up in the new larger box. You will then leave that key in the box or return to them when you pick up the mail. Since they have returned mail to a sender you will need to file a complaint against that office with the main office of the United States Post Office to start an investigation into their practices. You can do that at this link here. https://prd2faq.usps.com/faq/iq/usps/request.do?forward=emailUs Please let me know if you have further questions. Hope
