Hi, I'm Mike G and I'll be assisting you. There are several types of remotes. On the fan you may have external dip switches if the receiver is factory installed. If not on the fan externally the receiver could be a universal and will be in the canopy of the fan. The hand held remote usually has dip switches in the battery compartment. If not there the remote mat be one that automatically links with the receiver. Make and model numbers would possibly allow me to be specific on what you have.
